Private Consultation

Developing supports for the teen/young adult’s transition years can seem like an impossible task. The pieces however can be brought together during transition by applying practical strategies to establish and develop supports, and by promoting the young adult to use h/her strengths and interest. Some of these pieces include employment, attending college, leisure, social connections, independence, and emotional development.

With the family’s input I will use the CAIS©  assessment to evaluate your adolescent/young adult in 7 areas of living within the context of needed supports and capability levels. I draw expertise from real experiences: through proven methods within my professional work in promoting independence and securing employment for youth, in my original research findings, and my own experience with my son who has autism.

Are you:

·        worried about your son or daughter’s adolescent or adult years?

·        seeking help to build self confidence and opportunities for growth and greater independence in the life of your son/daughter?

·        desiring to learn what you can do to establish supports so your son or daughter can have: employment, pursue college, enjoy leisure, or live with an increased well-being?

All issues and concerns are unique to the individual and the family and so are the solutions.

I will:

·        listen to your needs as you see them, regarding the teen/young adult and the family.

·        use the CAIS assessment to help determine your child’s current capability levels and need for supports with a focus on quality of life issues.

I offer:

·        approaches to identify and apply an individual’s strengths and gifts which can increase a person’s capability and self value.

·        ideas that can meet your son/daughter’s emotional needs through the changes in the transition phases from adolescence into adulthood.

·        ways to access and create resources

·        suggestions and strategies to build or create supports that will help the individual pursue areas of employment, leisure/hobby, friendships, and skills in community and independent living.

You Will Receive:

·        A complete evaluation report for a school/agency.

·        Becoming Remarkably Able for ongoing evaluations, action steps, and the planning to initiate and promote participation and growth for your son/daughter.

Seven Ways the CAIS © Report Can Assist in Educational Programs and Other Services

1) to assist school personnel in educational planning, writing IEP objectives and goals

2) to provide therapists in speech, OT, and ABA a consistent protocol and information about your son/daughter’s capability levels, support needs, and personal strengths in all 7 domains of living.

3) to help in transition planning for the teen’s next phase in life goals. Information on your child’s strengths, preferences, and need for supports are highly significant in making effective transitions.

4) to provide paraprofessionals, community coaches, and mentors who train or teach independent skills, the reference point and practical steps to establish needed supports.

5) to offer helpful information to team members who participate in the process of person-centered- planning with your child.

6) to assist an agency providing community living services to the individual. The CAIS is a consistent protocol to pinpoint areas of need and necessary supports in all 7 domains of living.

7) Young adults with Aspergers or High Functioning can use the CAIS to self evaluate h/her own progress and capabilities. The CAIS is a user friendly self management tool.
